Financing

We were fortunate during our setting up period to have received a number of grants which enable us to carry out extensive alterations to the premises and to equip it with a good range of machine and hand tools. For the future we will have to be self-sufficient and will depend on member subscriptions and fund raising activities. The latter include making items for sale on our sales stall in the Park and also by undertaking commissioned work.

A brief history

The Shed was formed in September 2017 on the initiative of the staff of the Bucks CC Countryside Centre. With an initial membership of 8 it began in a small shed in a yard beside the old sawmill with the idea that it could expand into some adjacent lean-to sheds.

It became apparent that this would be unlikely to provide a suitable home long-term and an alternative of a large lean-to to the original sawmill was offered.

The members set to work converting and fitting out the new premises over the course of about a year and in July 2018 the new Shed was formally launched at an Open Day. The premises now comprise a 50sq.m. main workshop, a 25sq.m machine shop and a 25sq.m. Mess Room with shared access to a kitchen and toilets.

Membership has risen to more than 30 and is rising steadily. Initially open on just one day a week, we are now open every weekday except Wednesday.

We are very grateful to organisations which have generously given donations:

We were very grateful for generous grants from
RVS/ASDA Shed Foundation
Heart of Bucks
Local Area Forum for Wexham and the Ivers which allowed us to start work on our shed.

Also for the generous grants received from DCMS and The National Lottery Community Fund for improvements to our workshop heating.

We are also deeply indebted to the management and staff of Black Park who have not only provided the premises and materials but have been most welcoming to us.
